Why Fans Support Current PVF Troubled by ‘Legit’ Board

Philippine volleyball fans actively share hashtags #WeSupport #PVF #PresKarlChan #SecGenOtieCamangian #OneForVolleyball online. Is PVF in trouble once again?

Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF)What is wrong this time?

Gener Dungo, who became infamous for his excellent (sic) leadership over the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF), is making noise once again after news broke out that the current PVF board will be replaced by the set of the ‘legitimate’ board members last Sunday.

What irks me, along with the rest of the Philippine volleyball supporters, is the unnecessary and sudden reappearance of the so-called duly elected board of PVF. According to reports, the ‘six-man board’ now headed by its new chairman, Edgardo ‘Boy’ Cantada, will take over the federation and its proceedings until the General Assembly on Feb. 21 next year when the election is scheduled to take place. Make Your Morning MRT Commutes Less Stressful

Morning commutes are always stressful, especially when you have to take the buses along EDSA, Metro Manila’s busiest avenue. That’s why it has become such a relief when the Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line 3, simply called MRT-3 or MRT, made possible going to Taft from North Ave. in less than an hour.

However, what should be everyone’s saving grace turns out to be just another recipe for disaster for commuters who are pressed for time. Limited trains, packed platforms, long queues are the normal scenarios that greet you every time, especially on Mondays, making your daily commutes a big source of headache.

If you take the the train at the North Ave. Station like I do, you can avoid this much trouble because there are certain things I have observed that you can do  to make your morning commutes less of a hassle. Continue reading “Make Your Morning MRT Commutes Less Stressful”

‘Bride for Rent’ Is A Hit!

Bride for RentIf you haven’t seen Star Cinema’s first treat for 2014, you’re absolutely missing a whole lot. Bride for Rent is certainly a must-watch film that will be appreciated by moviegoers, especially those who believe or want to give the concept of forever and becoming better another shot.

Headlined by the chinito tandem of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim as Rocky and Rocco, Bride for Rent is a sure-fire hit that will be this year’s first box-office film. In fact, it manages to rake in P100 million in just four days and is set to break the P200 million marker in ten days!

Regardless if it reaches that record or not, this romantic-comedy film directed by Mae Czarina Cruz will guarantee you 155 minutes of laughter, kilig moments, and a whole lot of realizations. Here are four reasons this film won’t disappoint you: Continue reading “‘Bride for Rent’ Is A Hit!”

When You’re Introverted and Gay

introvertI’ve always thought of myself as introverted. And in the wee hours of a Sunday morning, I still think I am.

But despite my efforts to convince some people, there are still few who disagree. So, I asked Google to check if my understanding of introversion is spot on.

Turned out it was true. I am shy, reticent, and self-centered (a little). But to the people who habitually hear how badly I need to poop, I am not. It’s as if I transform to something uncharacteristic of me–loud, bitchy, and everything in between. Continue reading “When You’re Introverted and Gay”

4 Reasons You Shouldn’t Miss ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’

Four Sisters and a WeddingLast weekend, I finally had the chance to catch ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding.’ And although it wasn’t at the top of my list of must-see movies this month, I still gave it a try. After all, who would say no to a free ticket? But to my surprise, I actually liked and enjoyed it!

That’s why to those who haven’t seen this Cathy Garcia-Molina film, I suggest that you do so now before the Hollywood movies completely take over the cinemas. (At present, it’s being screened in one cinema only in both TriNoma and SM City North-Edsa.) To convince you more, here is a short and quick review why you should watch it: Continue reading “4 Reasons You Shouldn’t Miss ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’”

That Thing Called Pinoy Pride

I was browsing through my Facebook News Feed a few days back when I came across an online article titled “Why Pinoy Pride will never save the Philippines.” And if you’ve already read it, then you probably have shared your disagreement or whatnot, whether through social media or over dinner. Otherwise, go ahead and click the link to hear what the author has to say about “the cancer…that continues to shoot down all efforts to improve our people’s behavior.” Continue reading “That Thing Called Pinoy Pride”

What Will Be PVF’s Next Move?

The Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) looks to be heading toward the right direction, and that’s just what the volleyball community has been desperately waiting for. And if it continues to show significant actions to improve the sport and to support our athletes, PVF and its officials may very well get the thumbs up. Philippine Volleyball As We Know It Now

Ho ho! Volleyball is poised to share the spotlight with basketball and football. With the growing fan base that can fill venues like San Juan Arena, Araneta Coliseum, and even MOA Arena, this sport has finally found its niche, so much that 2013 can be loosely called the year of women’s Philippine volleyball.

When Our Athletes Get Booed

It’s a no brainer that we, Pinoy fans, are one of the most passionate and loyal supporters in the world, especially when our sports idols compete in the international scene. We yell “Puso!” and “Laban!” every time our athletes are lagging behind the score tally, and we scream our lungs out with every point they make. Even when we aren’t watching the matches live, we always make sure to cheer for them by pumping our fists in front of TV screens or by trending a string of texts on Facebook and Twitter.

For A Friend Who’s Getting Old and Feeling Empty

I know all these have been said and written before. But sometimes, we all need to get reminded.

“I’m getting old,” he said.

We all do. At some point in our lives, we will start to grow white hair, watch our skin sag, and feel the burden of old age. But in that journey, we shall learn new things, gain more knowledge, and view life differently than how we did back when we were such drama queens in high school. There will be a lot of changes around and within ourselves. But the wonder of aging is the slow unfolding of what life really is–mysterious and unpredictable that you alone can experience.
